In SAAB R4 AIS and GPS units, commonly encountered issues such as unresponsive buttons or command input failures are generally caused by the keypad (front panel key unit) losing its PCB contact functionality. This typically results from the deformation of the rubber keypad material due to intensive or prolonged use.

The Enter, Page, Esc, Arrows and the function keys below the display are the most frequently used buttons, and therefore are the most likely to lose their physical contact performance over time. For this reason, only the keypad unit is offered as a replacement part.

The recommended solution is to replace the keypad unit rather than the entire device. Installation is simple and restores the unit to its original operating condition.
