Sperry Marine – Northrop Grumman Gyrosphere Fluid ( Product Number 044810-0000-000 ) is for Navigat XMK1, Navigat MK2, Navigat 100, Navigat 200 and SR-180.
The Gyrosphere Fluid in the Container should be renewed regularly every 18 months. This liquid loses its properties over time and its amount begins to decreas. In cases where this liquid is not renewed regularly, the Gyrosphere in the Gyrocompass causes malfunctions. It can also cause major deformations on the Container. When the Gyrosphere liquid decreases, the Gyropshere sits on the bottom of the Container and loses contact with the Center Pin, preventing the Gyro Compass from rotating in the Container. In addition, the Gyrospehere Liquid that is not changed for more than 12 months loses its chemical properties and becomes unusable.
It is very important to follow the change time of the Gyrosphere fluid for these reasons. The label on the Gyrosphere Fluid bottle should be removed and attached to the front cover of the Gyrocompass and the Next Annual Inspection section should be filled. You can understand whether the fluid needs to be changed by looking at this date.
The product is sent as liquid in a 1 liter bottle. This liquid is used once for annual maintenance. After use, some amount will remain. In case the remaining liquid decreases, you can store the remaining part and use it later. Never use liquids that have passed the expiry date.
During the 18-month maintenance, the gaskets and knurled screws on the container should be checked. If there are deformations, they should be replaced. Otherwise, gyrosphere fluid may be lost by evaporation or leakage. If you need this gasket kit, please specify it as an extra.
